To discover the life's rhythm of a community, one must live in that community for an extended period of time. We have done exactly that. Through our extended presence in Bali, Malaysia, and Thailand, we have forged many close friendships with the local communities. We have been invited to weddings and other important family celebrations, attended rare trance dances, eaten at wonderful small places that are the locals' favorites, found charming off-the-beaten-path ancient temples, discovered new treks through rural villages, and explored new-found natural wonders. Our passion is also to seek out non-profit organizations that greatly improve the local community or the environment. We have found many of these remarkable organizations and are amazed at the good work they do with so few resources.

We have added many of these new discoveries to both our existing and new tours, but only when we feel that our presence will not compromise their integrity and authenticity.

New 2011 Tours Added!

* Textile Tour of Bali and Yogyakarta
        September 19 - October 3 (14D/13N)
Tour Code: BALI-YOGY-11

Our gateway to this world is through the island of Bali, where we steep ourselves in the island's rich traditions during six days in the cultural center of Ubud and three days on the coast of east Bali. Here we will receive insightful introductions to the local culture, see world-class dance troupes, walk through early-morning rice fields, and gain our introduction to the textile arts through the Threads of Life gallery and the YPBB Foundation. Visits with master weavers across the island will offer unique insights into the forces at play in the contemporary tradition, enable insight into what Threads of Life and the YPBB Foundation are doing to sustain these traditions, and expose the visitor to some fabulous textiles. The next part of this tour takes you to the old city of Yogyakarta on the island of Java to experience Javanese textile arts, food, dance and culture.
Price: USD 3,488 plus local airfares to Yogyakarta (estimated at USD 245/person)

* Birds of North Borneo (Sabah)
